BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's soccer team (6-6-3, 4-2-1 USAS) scored a DIII-era record eight goals in Saturday afternoon's 8-0 triumph over Agnes Scott College (0-11-2, 0-5-1 USAS) on Senior Day.

Prior to the victory, the Tornados honored its six-member senior class of Fall 2021 – Samantha Foster, Rebecca Garza, Alyssa Hetherington, Ashley Royster, Aliyah Vaughan, and Emma White – in a special pre-match ceremony at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Brevard's offense surged ahead for a season-high eight scores, as the Tornado offense scored its most goals in a single-game as a member of NCAA DIII. BC's eight-goal outburst surpassed its previous DIII-era high set on September 22, 2018 in a seven-goal performance against Berea. The eight goals are the second-highest single-game mark in Brevard's NCAA-era, as the Tornados scored nine goals on August 29, 2008 in a 9-2 triumph over Columbia College.

Seniors Hetherington and Royster led BC's scoring barrage, with both Tornados logging two goals each. Hetherington added a pair of assists to her ledger for a six-point performance, while Royster tallied an assist for five points.

Tae Brown, a sophomore forward from Mooresville, North Carolina, scored a goal while dishing out two assists to increase her team lead to five on the season. Grace Black, Taylor Richardson, and White also etched their names on the score sheet, while Maddy Edwards, Olivia Grisewood, Sallie Riggan, and Vaughan all distributed assists in the contest.

Graduate goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas (5-5-3) got the start for the Tornados, while Cam Da Silva also saw action for BC in goal, playing the entire second half.

Brevard was able to dominate the match from the beginning, tallying 26 shots while holding the Scotties shotless through 90 minutes of play. The Tornados were able to win a total of nine corner kicks, while Agnes Scott keeper Ashley Kopczyk made five saves.

BC scored four goals in the first 12 minutes of action, as Brown found Hetherington on a high pass that the senior from Marietta, Georgia put past the Scottie keeper in the second minute to open the scoring. Royster found the back of the net in the fourth minute on a Brown cross, while scoring her second goal of the contest and sixth of the season in the 11th minute of play. Just 47 seconds after their last goal, the Tornados extended their lead to a 4-0 advantage as Brown completed a build-up from Riggan and Royster.

In the 30th minute, Hetherington finished a Vaughan pass that made the score 5-0 in favor of Brevard, a margin that the Tornados would take into intermission.

Grisewood put in a cross into the box off a corner kick in the 64th minute that found White who pushed the ball over the line to further balloon the Tornado lead, 6-0. Black was able to score her first goal of the Fall 2021 season, taking the ball herself down the near sideline and finishing, making the score 7-0. BC's final goal of the match came in the 86th minute when Richardson finished a buildup started by Edwards and Hetherington, as the Tornados cruised to the 8-0 triumph.

The Tornados close out their regular season next week with three contests in total. BC will first head to Swannanoa, North Carolina to battle Warren Wilson College on Monday at 4:30 before its final home competition of the regular season on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Johnson & Wales – Charlotte. Brevard will conclude USA South Conference action on Saturday, October 23 with a 3 p.m. kickoff against Berea College in Berea, Kentucky.
