Royster Finds Double-OT Winner for BC’s First Conference Win

LAGRANGE, Ga. - Junior forward Ashley Royster found the back of the net in the 107th minute on Justine St. Louis' first career assist, as the Brevard College women's soccer team (2-5-2, 1-1-0 USAS) claimed its first USA South Conference victory of Fall 2021, 2-1, over LaGrange College (1-4, 0-2 USAS).

The Tornados fired off a DIII-era record 46 shots in the double-overtime victory, including 24 shot attempts in the first half alone.

Tae Brown scored her first goal of the season, as the sophomore forward from Mooresville, North Carolina broke the scoreless draw in the 52nd minute on an unassisted goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Cam Da Silva (1-1) earned her first career collegiate victory, making her second consecutive start in goal for the Tornados. The Cumming, Georgia native made five saves in the victory.

Royster shot a career-high 10 shots, while Brown added a career-high eight shot attempts. Alyssa Hetherington and St. Louis logged five shots each in BC's flurry of shot attempts.

LaGrange was led by Maurie White, who made 15 saves for the Panthers. Lauren Williamson scored the lone goal for LaGrange on a Taylor Hann assist.

BC was able to control possession throughout the match, with its 46 shot attempts and 11 corner kicks won. Brown's 52nd-minute goal came on Brevard's 28th shot of the match.

LaGrange put together a late comeback bid, firing three shots at goal just before the Panthers' 84th-minute equalizer. After 90 minutes of regulation, the contest was sent to sudden-death overtime.

In the first overtime period, BC outshot LaGrange 7-0, but was unable to find the back of the net. With both sides still deadlocked, the match moved to a second 10-minute OT period.

LaGrange fired a shot on-goal in the 103rd minute that forced a De Silva save before BC fired a pair of shot attempts off. St. Louis, a freshman forward from Orange City, Florida, found Royster, who was able to score the game-winner to give BC their first win since September 4.

The Tornados will return to action when they host Piedmont University on Wednesday, September 29 at 7 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
