Tornados Drop 1-0 Match to Bruins
BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (1-4-2) dropped a tight contest, 1-0, to Bob Jones University (7-1-0) on a cool Wednesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
 
Bob Jones scored the game's lone goal as Gabriela Gonzalez scored in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead.  Off a corner kick, Gonzalez was able to fire off two consecutive shots, the second of which off a rebound found the back of the net. It marked the first goal allowed by the Brevard College defense and goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas in over five halves of soccer and a total of 263 minutes dating back to the first half of the match vs. Berry College on September 11.
 
Rojas registered four saves in goal for the Tornados.  BJU goalie Rebekah Shoop earned the shutout win in the net for the Bruins with two saves on the night.
 
Brevard outshot the Bruins, 10-8 with a 4-1 advantage in the second half.  Two of the second-half shots came on direct free kicks by senior defender Emma White that sailed just over the crossbar. 
 
Tae Brown led the Tornados with three shots, while Sallie Riggan, Abbie Worsencroft, Justine St. Louis, Olivia Grisewood, and Taylor Richardson all registered shots as well.
 
The match concluded a seven-game stretch of non-conference games to start the regular season for Brevard.  The Tornados now turn their attention to the start of USA South Conference play which begins Saturday at Huntingdon in Montgomery, Alabama.
