Knights Blank Tornados at Home

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's soccer team (1-2) was held in check on Tuesday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field, as the visiting Southern Virginia University Knights (1-1) shut out Brevard in a 2-0 non-conference decision by the two cross-divisional foes.

Junior forward Ashley Royster led all Tornados with three shot attempts, followed by Tae Brown and Hayley Kenney who registered a pair of shots each. Grace Black and Emma White also logged shots in the match.

Makya Lindgren racked up a goal and assist to lead the Knights in the match, while Makinna Winterton added SVU's second score of the contest. Teya Tagatauli dished out an assist as well to aid the SVU offense.

SVU and BC were near even in shot totals, with the Knights holding a 12-9 advantage in that category. The Knights held a 10-6 corner kick advantage, including a 9-2 margin in the second half of action.

Royster let three shots fly in a row through the first 19 minutes of play before Southern Virginia's Winterton ripped a shot that was stopped by BC's Rebeccah Rojas, who logged three saves in the contest. Shortly following a wave of substitutions for the Knights, SVU's Lingred fired a shot near-post that beat Rojas, giving the Knights a 1-0 advantage that they carried into the intermission.

Both sides registered shot attempts in the second half before the visitors doubled their lead in the 57th minute, as Winterton ripped in a score off Lindgren's assist to hand Southern Virginia a 2-0 advantage.

Brevard's Brown and Kenney each logged two shot attempts in the game's final 30 minutes, but the SVU defense shut down BC the rest of the way to finish off the 2-0 shutout.

The Tornados continue their homestand on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. when Brevard takes on Berry College at Ives-Lemel Family Field as part of a triple-header of action at Brevard with Football and Men's Soccer.
