Emory & Henry Edges Brevard in Season-Opener

EMORY, Va. – The Brevard College women's soccer team (0-1) opened its Fall 2021 season on the road Thursday, falling 1-0 to non-conference opponent Emory & Henry College (1-0) in Emory, Virginia.

Graduate goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas logged seven saves in the defensive showdown while facing a total of 19 shots. Junior forward Ashley Royster logged a pair of shot attempts to lead BC attackers.

EHC's Camilla Dobraniecki scored the match's lone goal off a Grace Williams assist, one-timing a pass at the top of the 18-yard box into the back post. The goal came on Dobraniecki's only shot attempt of the contest, as the Wasps outshot Brevard 19-6 overall.

BC's Sallie Riggan logged one of BC's two shots-on-goal in the sixth minute, forcing a Natalie Capone save early in the match. Royster registered a pair of shots in the eighth and 16th minutes before Dobraniecki's score. EHC logged three more shots, two of which resulting in Rojas saves, before the intermission.

BC's Olivia Little registered the first shot attempt of her collegiate career in the 55th minute before Hayley Kenney's first career shot attempt forced a Capone save in the 64th minute. BC's Rojas made five saves in the second half of action, including an 83rd-minute penalty kick save, however, Emory & Henry held on to their one-goal advantage to clinch the victory.

The Tornados return home to host their first match of the regular season at Ives-Lemel Family Field, as Brevard faces Carolina University on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m.
