  • Mascaro adds Sallie Riggan to Women’s Soccer Coaching Staff

    Brevard College women’s soccer alumna Sallie Riggan ’21 has been added to the BC women’s soccer coaching staff as Volunteer Assistant Coach, announced Head Coach Juan Mascaro. “We are thrilled to welcome Sallie back to Brevard in this new role,” commented Coach Mascaro. “She was a leader for us on the field during her playing career, and will be a valuable asset to the program as a coach mentoring our team.”
  • Brevard College Places Record 167 Student-Athletes on USA South Academic All-Conference List

    Brevard College placed a school-record 167 student-athletes on the USA South Academic All-Conference Team for the 2021-22 academic year. BC’s 167 academic all-conference selections shatters the previous record of 129 set in 2020-21. Brevard is among the top-five schools in the USA South in total number of honorees, joining Piedmont University (215 honorees), Huntingdon College (199 honorees), Southern Virginia University (197 honorees), and Methodist University (158 honorees) in the top-five of USA South Conference institutions.

    Senior midfielder Sallie Riggan and sophomore defender Lena Hatter were honored by the USA South in the conference’s postseason awards. Riggan took home West Division Second Team honors, while Lena Hatter was picked as Brevard College’s representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

    For the second consecutive season the Brevard College women’s soccer team (9-6-3, 5-2-1 USAS) is postseason bound in the USA South, as the Tornados clinched a berth into the 2021 USA South Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament with a 4-1 triumph over Berea College (5-13-0, 2-6-0 USAS) on Saturday afternoon. The Tornados, who will host a postseason contest for the second season in a row, will match up against five-seed Huntingdon College on Tuesday, October 26 at 4 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
  • Brevard Scores Three First Half Goals in Victory at Warren Wilson

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (7-6-3) completed a season sweep over Warren Wilson College (0-9-0), using three goals in the first half to propel itself to a 3-0 triumph on Monday afternoon.  Ashley Royster tallied a goal and assist to help lead the Tornado offense, while Taylor Richardson and Aliyah Vaughan each found the score sheet as well. The goal marked the first of Vaughan’s collegiate career. In addition to Royster, Sallie Riggan and Abbie Worsencroft also logged assists in the contest.

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (5-5-3, 3-1-1 USAS) battled it out through a 110-minute double-overtime draw against Covenant College (7-4-2, 3-0-1 USAS) on Saturday evening in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Graduate goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas (4-4-3) made three saves in the shutout performance – the sixth total of her Fall 2021 campaign.
  • Offensive Surge Carries Tornados Past Owls, 4-0

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (5-5-2) used a season-high four goals to surge past Warren Wilson College (0-8), 4-0, on a rain-soaked Thursday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  Abbie Worsencroft scored her first two goals of the 2021 season, tallying the first brace of her collegiate career. Senior midfielder Sallie Riggan dished out a pair of assists, while sophomore forward Taylor Richardson logged a goal and an assist. Fellow sophomore Grace Black dished out her first career assist on Richardson’s goal, while freshman midfielder Maddie Edwards scored her first collegiate goal on Richardson’s assist.

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (4-5-2, 3-1-0 USAS) won its third consecutive USA South Conference match with a 2-0 shutout victory over visiting Wesleyan College (0-7-1, 0-2-0 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
  • Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Piedmont to Claim Conference Victory, 1-0

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (3-5-2, 2-1 USAS) scored in the first four minutes of action before shutting out the visiting Piedmont University Lions (4-3-3, 1-1 USAS) over the final 86 minutes of action to pull out a big USA South Conference victory on Wednesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  Junior forward Ashley Royster scored her third goal of the Fall 2021 season, tapping in a Tae Brown pass in just the fourth minute of play. Brown, a native of Mooresville, North Carolina, dished out here third assist of the season on the pass. 
  • Royster Finds Double-OT Winner for BC’s First Conference Win

    Junior forward Ashley Royster found the back of the net in the 107th minute on Justine St. Louis’ first career assist, as the Brevard College women’s soccer team (2-5-2, 1-1-0 USAS) claimed its first USA South Conference victory of Fall 2021, 2-1, over LaGrange College (1-4, 0-2 USAS).

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (1-5-2, 0-1 USAS) fell 1-0 to host Huntingdon College (6-2-0, 2-0-0 USAS) in BC’s USA South Conference opener on Saturday afternoon in Montgomery, Alabama.
  • Tornados Drop 1-0 Match to Bruins

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (1-4-2) dropped a tight contest, 1-0, to Bob Jones University (7-1-0) on a cool Wednesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field. Bob Jones scored the game’s lone goal as Gabriela Gonzalez scored in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead.  Off a corner kick, Gonzalez was able to fire off two consecutive shots, the second of which off a rebound found the back of the net. It marked the first goal allowed by the Brevard College defense and goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas in over five halves of soccer and a total of 263 minutes dating back to the first half of the match vs. Berry College on September 11.

  • Brown Dishes Two Assists in BC’s First Win of Season

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (1-1) picked up its first victory of the new season on Saturday evening, defeating Carolina University (0-2) by a final of 3-1. Tae Brown, a sophomore forward from Mooresville, North Carolina, distributed two assists in the contest, while Alyssa Hetherington, Taylor Richardson, and Ashley Royster all found the back of the net for the Tornados. Olivia Grisewood dished out the first assist of her collegiate career on Hetherington’s score.

  • Athletics Field House Officially Opens with Ceremonial Ribbon Cutting

    The new Athletics Field House on the campus of Brevard College officially opened its doors with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Friday, August 27. The 10,375 square foot Field House will provide locker room, offices, storage and meeting space for six Brevard College sports as well as classrooms and a laboratory for the college's Exercise Science program.
