Women’s Lacrosse Claims 22-8 Victory in Inaugural Ridge Rivalry

BREVARD, N.C. – Several Tornados totaled career-high point totals as the Brevard College women's lacrosse team (6-10) cruised past Warren Wilson College (3-8), 22-8, in the inaugural Ridge Rivalry contest, as BC took home the brand new "Iron Mountain" trophy following its win on Tuesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Junior attackers Autumn Kraemer and Parker Moore each scored seven goals with three assists for 10 points each, as both Tornados set their career-high mark for single-game points. Both 10-point totals rank tied for second in the program's single-game record for points scored. Emily Denaga, a freshman attacker from Buford, Georgia, scored a career-high eight points after a four-goal, four-assist performance. Denaga led the Tornados with eight draw controls, while Kraemer controlled seven.

Senior midfielder KC Collins, who was honored pre-game with a special Student Leadership award, scored twice alongside three assists, while Savannah Colliver added a goal and an assist. Lexi Maclauchlin (6-7) earned her sixth win starting in goal this season, making six saves in the contest.

Brevard held a 31-20 advantage in the shooting department and went 6-for-6 on free-position shots. BC grabbed 22 ground balls, converted 12-of-16 clear attempts, and won 19 draw controls.

After WWC took a 2-0 lead in the first three-plus minutes of play, Brevard tallied four goals to take a 4-2 advantage with 5:52 left in the first quarter. Both sides traded two goals each, as Brevard took a 6-4 lead into the second period of action.

Brevard completely dominated the second quarter, scoring 10-straight goals in the period while blanking the Owls to take a controlling 16-4 lead into the halftime intermission. Moore scored three times in the quarter, with Kraemer and Denage each scoring twice. Collins, Colliver, and Dani Stavely also added goals for the Tornados.

BC extended its unanswered goal streak to 14 goals after scoring the first three of the third quarter, holding a 19-4 lead with 7:44 left in the third period. The Tornados were able to take a 20-5 margin into the fourth and final quarter.

Warren Wilson was able to slightly outscore the Tornados in the final period, 3-2, but the deficit was too much to overcome as Brevard claimed the 14-goal victory, 22-8, to take home the Iron Mountain Trophy in the inaugural Ridge Rivalry meeting.

Brevard will close the regular season with a pivotal matchup at home against Methodist University on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field. The contest will mark the Senior Day for BC women's lacrosse, as seniors Collins and Morgan Graham will be honored in a special pre-game ceremony.
