Avenging Angels Take Conference Win over Brevard

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's lacrosse team (3-9, 1-5 USAS) fell 22-3 to first-place Meredith College (8-4, 5-0 USAS) on Saturday morning at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Freshman goalkeeper Lexi Maclauchlin (3-7) made six saves to anchor BC's defensive efforts, while Emily Denaga scored a pair of goals in addition to KC Collins' lone goal.

Three Avenging Angels had hat tricks in the contest, while eight Meredith student-athletes had multi-goal performances. Meredith's Maya Flake had two goals and six assists for a game-high eight points.

Meredith started out the contest on a hot streak offensively, scoring 15 unanswered goals before Denaga's free-position shot got the Tornados on the board.

Brevard's most successful period proved to be the third quarter, as the Tornados outscored Meredith 2-1 with Collins and Denaga both registering points for Brevard. Meredith closed things out with a 5-0 scoring run in the fourth quarter, giving the visiting Avenging Angels the 19-goal win, 22-3.

Brevard held things close in the draw control department, as the Tornados won 13 draws to Meredith's 16, with Denaga controlling a game-best six draw controls.

Brevard will compete on the road next Saturday, April 9 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina at NC Wesleyan College. BC's next home contest will be on Tuesday, April 19 in the inaugural "Ridge Rivalry" game vs. Warren Wilson College at 6 p.m.
