Tornados Drop Road Match at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Brevard College women's lacrosse team (3-8, 1-4 USA South) dropped a USA South Conference contest, 18-8, to host Piedmont University (5-6, 2-2 USAS) on Tuesday evening in Demorest, Georgia.

Freshman Emily Denaga recorded three goals for a hat trick to lead the Tornados offensively. It marked the sixth time this season that the native of Buford, Georgia has scored three or more goals in a contest.

Juniors Parker Moore and Savannah Colliver each scored two goals as well, while senior Morgan Graham registered one goal and one assist, marking the first career points for the Covington, Virginia native.

Piedmont jumped out to an early lead, leading 3-0 through the opening period's first 14 minutes. The Lions then scored back-to-back goals in less than 20 seconds to take a 5-0 advantage.  BC was able to get on the board with a goal by Moore as time was expiring in the first period.

Trailing 5-1 at the start of the second period, Piedmont outscored BC 4-1 over the next ten minutes to take a 9-2 lead.  The Tornados responded with back-to-back goals, both coming from Denaga, to cut the deficit to five goals.

The Lions however responded again with three straight goals to take a 12-4 lead into the intermission.

The third period proved to be the most successful for Brevard as the Tornados outscored the Lions 3-2 in the stanza while also winning the period in draw controls, shots and successful clears.

Denaga opened the period with her third goal of the game and her team-high 31st goal of the season with a well-placed free position shot in a power-play situation to start the half.  Later in the period, Graham scored her first career goal with 6:54 to play followed by an assist to set up her teammate Colliver for the third goal of the period.

The fourth period however belonged to the Lions who outscored the Tornados 4-1 en route to the 10-goal final margin. Colliver scored BC's lone goal in the final period with a successful free position shot with 12:42 remaining in the contest.

Senior KC Collins started in goal for the Tornados, registering eight saves.

Brevard will return to action on Saturday with a conference home matchup vs. Meredith. Start time is set for 11 a.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field on the campus of Brevard College.
