BREVARD, N.C. - Brevard College women's basketball swept both of the USA South Conference's weekly awards as junior forward Makenna Parkins earned Player of the Week honors while freshman guard Makayla Street was selected as Rookie of the Week.
The selections mark the first time in program history that the Tornados have taken home both awards in the same week. The honors give BC four total weekly awards so far this season, including three total Rookie of the Week honors so far.
Parkins, a Marion, North Carolina native, averaged a double-double of 19 points and 12.5 rebounds, to go along with 1.5 assists per game as the Tornados posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 62-57 loss at Berry, Parkins notched her first double-double of the week with 21 points and 12 rebounds, to go along with one steal. In a 96-84 win over USA South foe Salem, tallied a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds with three assists and one block.
The junior forward currently leads all Tornados averaging 14.4 points per game while adding a team-high 9.9 rebounds per game, a mark that ranks second in the USA South.
Street, a Rock Hill, South Carolina native, averaged 12 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals as the Tornados posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 62-57 loss at Berry, Street scored six points with two rebounds, and one steal. In a 96-84 win over USA South foe Salem, Street notched a career-high of 18 points and nine rebounds to go along with four steals and one assist.
In addition to her efforts at Berry and vs. Salem, Street led all BC scorers in an exhibition at NCAA DI Furman with 12 points. Street's Rookie of the Week award marks the third already this season for the Tornados, as teammate Olivia Miller was selected for the first two weeks of the season.
Parkins and Street's awards give Brevard College a grand total of 23 weekly awards from the USA South so far in 2022-23
