    Brevard College placed 154 student-athletes on the USA South Academic All-Conference Team for the 2022-23 academic year.
  • Program-Best Four Tornados from BC Women’s Basketball Named Academic All-District Team

    BREVARD, N.C. – A program-best four student-athletes from the Brevard College women’s basketball team have been named 2022-23 Academic All-District performers, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA).  Brevard College Women’s Basketball’s Makenna Parkins, Chyna Pouncey, Journey Tyler and Calli Wells were all named to the Academic All-District team for the 2022-23 season.  All four Tornado student-athletes now advance to the ballot for the 2022-23 CSC Academic All-America team.
  • Bishops Rally in Fourth to Defeat Tornados in USA South Tournament Semifinals

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (16-10) was unable to withstand a furious fourth-quarter rally by North Carolina Wesleyan University (18-8), as the Battling Bishops eliminated the Tornados from the USA South Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament, 68-62 on Thursday night in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
  • Miller Voted Rookie of the Year as Tornados Secure Four Postseason Awards from USA South

    Freshman forward Olivia Miller was voted as the USA South Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year, marking the first major award for Brevard College women's basketball as a member of the USA South, as BC was represented in four different categories in the USA South's postseason awards. 
  • Late Run Pushes Brevard Past Methodist, Sends Tornados to Semifinals of USA South Tournament

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (16-9) used a late run in the game’s final three minutes to take down Methodist University (14-11), 84-76 in the first round of the 2023 USA South Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  The win gives BC 16 victories on the season, which sets the program’s NCAA-era record for single-season wins, breaking the previous mark of 15 set last season. The win also marks the second-consecutive year that the BC women’s basketball program has won a first-round tournament game at home. 
  • Miller Awarded Rookie of the Week for the Third Time in 2022-23

    Freshman forward Olivia Miller was honored by the USA South Conference with her third Rookie of the Week selection of the 2022-23 season. Miller, a native of Hudson, North Carolina, averaged 9.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 1.0 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game as the Tornados posted a 1-1 record against USA South competition. In a 92-62 loss to Greensboro, Miller scored six points with two rebounds, and one assist. In a 66-52 victory over Salem, Miller posted 13 points, seven rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and one assist.
  • Brevard Closes Out Regular Season with 66-52 Victory at Salem; Locks Up Three-Seed in USA South Tourney

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (15-9, 12-6 USA South) wrapped up the regular season with a 66-52 victory over Salem College (3-19, 5-13 USAS) on Saturday afternoon in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. With the victory, the Tornados clinched the three-seed in the 2023 USA South Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament, as Brevard will host Methodist University on Tuesday, February 21 at 6 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium in first-round action.
  • Street Secures Third Rookie of the Week Nod of 2022-23

    Freshman guard Makayla Street was selected as the USA South Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season following a big performance in last Saturday’s 64-56 victory on the road at Methodist University. Street, a first-year student from Rock Hill, South Carolina, scored a co-game high 17 points off the bench in the win over Methodist. Street also added a co-team-high seven rebounds with two assists and one steal in the victory.
  • Tornados Finish Strong to Earn Key Road Win at Methodist

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (14-8, 11-5 USAS) earned a hard-fought road win 64-57 over host Methodist (13-9, 9-7 USAS) on Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  The win snapped a four-game losing skid for Brevard which remains in the top four of the latest USA South Conference standings. Freshman Makayla Street scored 17 points in 23 minutes off the bench to go along with seven rebounds.  Street sank a career-high nine free throws in ten attempts en route to her eighth double-digit scoring output of the season.

    The Brevard College women's basketball team (13-8, 9-5 USAS) dropped a USA South Conference contest 62-49 to Meredith College (7-14, 7-7 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium. 
  • Brevard Falls in Conference Showdown at Home to NC Wesleyan

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (13-7, 10-4 USA South) fell 77-67 to NC Wesleyan University (14-7, 11-3 USAS) on Friday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Three Tornados reached 12 points in the game, as Olivia Miller and Makenna Parkins each scored 12 points with Miller dishing a team-best five assists out. Naliyah Boyce led all bench performers with 12 points to go alongside seven rebounds, while Chyna Pouncey matched her rebounding effort with seven boards of her own. Makayla Street added nine points, three steals, and four rebounds with Christena Rhone totaling eight points and a team-best two 3-pointers made.

    The Brevard College Department of Athletics proudly celebrates this year’s National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).  The Tornados will host a celebration at the next home athletics event – the Women’s Basketball game vs. N.C. Wesleyan on Friday, February 3 with tipoff set for 6 p.m. ET at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
  • Falcons Stifle Tornados in Second Half for Upset Win, 59-49

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (13-6, 10-3 USA South) was held scoreless for a 13-minute stretch in the second half as Pfeiffer University (5-13, 3-9 USAS pulled out a 59-49 upset victory over the Tornados on Tuesday evening in Misenheimer, North Carolina. Makenna Parkins led all Tornados with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and a team-best four made 3-pointers to go alongside a team-high eight rebounds. Chyna Pouncey added eight points off the bench with a perfect 3-of-3 mark from the field and a 2-for-2 performance beyond the arc with six rebounds, while Naliyah Boyce added four points and six rebounds.
  • Tornados Fall in Overtime Thriller to Knights, 81-79

    Despite a spirited comeback effort in the fourth quarter that sent the game to overtime, the Brevard College women's basketball team (13-5, 10-2 USAS) fell in a thrilling contest to Southern Virginia University (9-9, 93 USAS) 81-79 on Saturday evening in Buena Vista, Virginia.  Junior forward Makenna Parkins scored a season-best 23 points on 10 made field goals with 12 rebounds, as five different Tornados reached double-digit scoring totals. 
  • Street Earns Second Rookie of the Week Honor of Season

    Following an impressive week that saw the Brevard College Women’s Basketball team go 2-0 in action, freshman guard Makayla Street was selected as the USA South Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the second time in the 2022-23 season. Street, a first-year student from Rock Hill, South Carolina, averaged 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game as the Tornados posted a 2-0 record last week. In a 75-62 win over Warren Wilson, Street scored 12 points with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. In a 72-62 victory over USA South for Pfeiffer, Street notched a double-double of 18 points and ten rebounds with one assist and one steal.
  • Second-Quarter Surge Helps Push Brevard Past Pfeiffer, 72-62; Tornados Sit 9-1 in USA South Play

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (13-4, 9-1 USA South) used a big second quarter to propel itself to its 13th win of the season and improve its record to 9-1 in USA South Conference play, as the Tornados defeated Pfeiffer University (3-12, 1-8 USAS) 72-62 on Wednesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium. The win gave Brevard a perfect 4-0 homestand as the Tornados went undefeated with three conference wins and a non-conference victory, as BC completed a busy stretch with four contests in six days at The Bosh.
  • Brevard Takes Care of Business in Non-Conference Tilt Against Warren Wilson

    The Brevard College women's basketball team (12-4) took down Warren Wilson College (0-13), 75-62, in non-conference action on Monday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Five Tornados reached double-figure scoring totals in the contest as Brevard completed the season sweep over the visiting Owls.  Junior forward Makenna Parkins scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting with four rebounds and two steals. Makayla Street, a freshman guard from Rock Hill, South Carolina, stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals while hitting a team-high six free throws. Naliyah Boyce scored 11 points and grabbed seven boards, while Aysha Short posted 10 points. Christina Rhone set a new career-high with 10 points by way of two made field goals and five free throws, in addition to four rebounds and three assists. Freshman forward Olivia Miller added nine points with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. 
  • Tornados Mount Ferocious Fourth-Quarter Comeback to Take Down Knights

    Backed by a critical fourth-quarter comeback, the Brevard College women’s basketball team (11-4, 8-1 USA South) outscore Southern Virginia University (7-8, 6-3 USAS) 29-14 down the stretch and claimed a critical USA South Conference home victory, 78-70, on Saturday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium. The best start in the NCAA era continues for BC women’s basketball, who improves to a record 11-4 mark through the first 15 games of the regular season.
  • Tornados Outlast Fighting Squirrels at Home, 63-46

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (10-4, 7-1 USA South) outlasted Mary Baldwin University (1-13, 1-6 USAS), 63-46, on Friday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium for BC’s seventh win in USA South play in eight tries. Junior guard Calli Wells and freshman guard Makayla Street led the way for the Tornados off the bench, scoring a combined 31 of BC’s 63 total points in the victory. Wells scored 17 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field with a team-best three made 3-pointers. Wells also contributed on the defensive end with six rebounds and three steals. Street added 14 points on an efficient 7-of-12 mark from the field while also snagging four boards and totaling a team-high four steals.
  • Greensboro Rallies Late to Hand Tornados First Conference Loss, 73-61

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (9-4, 6-1 USA South) battled Greensboro College (12-2, 7-0 USAS) for sole possession of first place in the USA South Conference on Tuesday evening in Greensboro, North Carolina. Greensboro put together a 17-2 scoring stretch late in the third quarter to retake the lead, and finished the contest off with a 12-point victory, 73-61, handing the Tornados their first USA South loss of the season.
  • Tornados Make Statement with 73-54 Win Over Methodist; Improve to 6-0 in Conference

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (9-3, 6-0 USA South) continued its program-best start to a season, as the Tornados defeated Methodist University (8-4, 4-2 USAS) 73-54 on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  The win gave the Tornados a perfect 6-0 mark in USA South play, as Brevard maintained its spot in a tie for first place with Greensboro College at the top of the standings. 
  • Women’s Basketball Remains Unbeaten in Conference Action; Totals Third-Straight Victory by 20-Plus

    The Brevard College women's basketball team (8-3, 5-0 USA South) earned its third consecutive victory with a 78-56 road triumph over Mary Baldwin University (1-11, 1-4 USAS) on Wednesday afternoon in Staunton, Virginia.  The win marked BC's seventh in its last nine contests as the Tornados are off to an undefeated 5-0 start in conference play. Brevard's 8-3 start is the program's best in the NCAA era. 
  • Hot Start Propels Tornados to 82-58 Win over Pacers; 4-0 Start for BC in USA South Action

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (7-3, 4-0 USA South) closed out the 2022 calendar year with a resounding 82-58 triumph over William Peace University (1-4, 0-2 USAS) on Saturday afternoon in BC’s Christmas-themed contest.  The Tornados are now owners of a 7-3 record through the first 10 games of the 2022-23 season, while maintaining their perfect 4-0 start in conference play.  Junior forward Makenna Parkins led all Tornados with 18 points on a highly-efficient 7-of-9 mark from the field in just 19 minutes of game time. Junior guard Calli Wells added 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting with a perfect 4-for-4 mark at the charity stripe, while also grabbing five rebounds. Makayla Street, a freshman guard and reigning USA South Rookie of the Week, added 12 points and swiped three steals, while Naliyah Boyce posted a double-double of 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for the Marion, North Carolina native’s first collegiate double-double performance.

  • Tornados Improve to 2-0 in USA South Play with Road W at Meredith

    The Brevard College women’s basketball team (4-2, 2-0 USAS) remained undefeated in USA South Conference play with a 56-43 road victory over host Meredith College (1-2, 1-2 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at Weatherspoon Gymnasium in Raleigh, North Carolina. In the lowest-scoring game of the season thus far for the Tornados, junior forward Makenna Parkins scored 10 points to go along with a team-high seven rebounds.  Freshman guard Jada Wilkins made her Tornado debut with ten points and three steals off the bench.
