Parkins Drops Career-High 27 Points as Tornados Win Third Straight

BREVARD, N.C. - Sophomore forward Makenna Parkins scored a career-high 27 points as the Brevard College women's basketball team (12-8, 6-5 USAS) took care of business on Sunday afternoon, defeating Agnes Scott College (1-21, 1-12 USAS) by a final of 70-52 in a USA South Conference matchup at the Boshamer Gymnasium. 

Parkins, a native of Marion, North Carolina, totaled 27 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the field and a pair of 3-pointers. The sophomore also blocked five shots, which ranks third all-time in BC's NCAA-era history for blocked shots in a single game. Parkins stuffed the stat sheet further with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. 

Destiny Williams had the 15th game of her career where she totaled 20 or more points, scoring 20 with eight rebounds and three assists. Lexi Shepard matched her career-high with seven assists and scored seven points, while Calli Wells totaled eight points and four rebounds.

Agnes Scott's attack was led by YaMea Elliot-Allen, who scored 15 points and racked up seven boards, while Erika McLeod grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. 

BC hit seven 3-pointers and controlled the battle on the glass, 46-39, while distributing 21 assists and scoring 24 points off Scottie turnovers. Brevard scored 34 points in the paint and its bench racked up 16 points. 

The first quarter was back-and-forth, featuring all eight of the contest's lead changes before a Parkins 3-pointer gave the Tornados a 3-point advantage, 16-13, with 56 seconds left in the period. BC held an 18-15 lead heading into the second quarter. 

BC was able to balloon its lead up to a 12-point margin, 29-17, with 4:32 left in the half, before the Scotties scored the final six points of the quarter to cut the deficit to six points, 29-23. Parkins led all scorers with 15 points at the intermission. 

BC started the third quarter hot, outscoring Agnes Scott 15-7 to take a 14-point advantage, 44-30. A Shepard 3-pointer extended Brevard's lead up to 18 before the Tornados held a 15-point advantage, 50-35, heading into the fourth quarter. 

Brevard kept the lead above double-digits for the remainder of the contest, taking a game-high 20 point lead before clinching the win by a final of 70-52. 

BC continues the final stretch of its regular season on Wednesday as the Tornados travel to Maryville, Tennessee to take on Maryville College at 6 p.m.
