Brevard Falls to Piedmont in Georgia

DEMOREST, Ga. - Graduate forward Destiny Williams scored 20 points, but the Brevard College women's basketball team (9-6, 4-3 USA South) fell 78-49 to Piedmont College (14-3, 8-1 USAS) on Wednesday at Cave Arena in Demorest, Georgia. 

Williams was Brevard's leading scorer, hitting seven field goals and six free throws for her seventh game this season scoring 20 or more points. The Aiken, South Carolina native also grabbed four rebounds and swiped four steals. Makenna Parkins added nine points, six rebounds, and a career-high three blocked shots. 

Nakiyah Washington led three Lions in double figures with 15 points and five rebounds, while Klaire Varney and Livia Skinner scored 13 and 12 points respectively. 

Piedmont was able to shoot 40% from the field and outrebound the Tornados, 46-37. The hosts forced 30 Brevard turnovers and scored 27 points off turnovers while scoring 48 points in the paint to Brevard's 26. 

The Lions led the contest wire-to-wire, opening the game on a 16-2 run before taking a 25-11 lead into the second quarter. Piedmont was able to hold a 25-18 scoring advantage in the second period, as the Lions held a 21-point, 50-29 lead into the second half. Williams had a team-high 10 points at the break with three steals for BC. 

Piedmont was able to outscore Brevard 18-11 in the third quarter and 11-8 in the fourth to close out its victory, taking the USA South Conference victory 79-48.

The Tornados will gear up for another USA South road test, as Brevard will travel to Berea, Kentucky to face Berea College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
