BREVARD, N.C. - Graduate forward Destiny Williams became just the third Tornado in program history to surpass 200 career steals, but the Brevard College women's basketball team (4-2) fell in non-conference action to Berry College (3-3), 69-55, on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

Williams, a native of Aiken, South Carolina, dropped a game-high 27 points on 9-of-19 shooting that included a 3-pointer and nine free throws. The graduate student added a game-best 11 boards for her third double-double of the 2021-22 season.

The forward totaled four steals in the contest, bringing her career total to 202. Williams becomes just the third Tornado in NCAA-era history to join the 200-steal club, as Michaela Watkins (267, 2010-13) and Madison Lenox (229, 2013-17) are the only other players to reach the prestigious milestone.

Makenna Parkins, Chyna Pouncey, and Ty'She Washington each scored six points, while Lexi Shepard dished out a game-best six assists.

Berry was led by Sydney Blankenship, who totaled 23 points on 8-of-20 shooting. Kish Chandler added 18 points on a 6-of-12 shooting mark. Blankenship and Faith Humphrey also totaled four steals to lead the Viking defense.

Brevard outshot the Vikings 44% to 39% from the field, but Berry made eight 3-point baskets to Brevard's two. The visitors held a 71% to 58% advantage on the charity stripe.

Berry scored 27 points off 31 Brevard turnovers, while the Tornados scored 30 points in the paint.

Brevard held a narrow 10-9 advantage after the first quarter, as Williams scored seven of BC's 10 points. Berry answered back with a 21 point second quarter, using a 9-0 run to take a 10-point lead with 4:06 left in the second quarter. Brevard chipped away, as the Vikings took a four-point, 30-26 lead into the halftime intermission.

Berry held the four-point lead despite being outshot 41% to 28% by the Tornados from the field. Williams totaled 15 points and five boards through the first half, while Blankenship posted 10 points in the first stanza.

Berry totaled its second consecutive 21-point quarter in the third period to help extend its advantage. Brevard was able to get within a single point, 42-41, with 3:24 left after a Pouncey fastbreak layup. Berry answered back with a 9-0 scoring run to end the quarter, taking a 10-point, 51-41 lead into the final stanza.

Brevard was able to cut the Viking lead to five points early, but a quick 7-0 run put Berry back up by 12. The visitors extended their lead to a game-high 17-point margin with 4:14 left to help seal their non-conference win, 69-55.

The defeat comes after Brevard defeated the Vikings earlier in the season, as the two schools split the season series.

The Tornados return to action on Thursday when Brevard hosts Pfeiffer University at 7 p.m.
