Tornados Turn in Strong Results at LR Bear Invitational

HICKORY, N.C. - The Brevard College track & field team competed in the LR Bear Invitational on Friday and Saturday, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina. 

Several Tornados posted strong performances, as Brevard gears up for the USA South Conference Track & Field Championships on Thursday and Friday, April 21-22 in Berea, Kentucky.

George Wells turned in a first-place finish in the 1,500-meter race with a 4:06 time, while fellow distance runners Dalton Hawley (3rd place 5,000-meter, 15:40), and Garrett Spangler (3rd place 10,000-meter, 32:54) also showed out for the Tornados. 

On the women's side, Zoe Capps placed second in the 10,000-meter race with a 42:24 time, while Haylea-Layne Miller finished third with a personal-record 1:08.16 in the 400-meter hurdles event. 

Jerome Bass, a senior thrower from Red Springs, North Carolina, placed third in the Shot Put with a personal-record 14.91-meter attempt to lead Tornado throwers. 

Brevard returns to action on Friday and Saturday, April 15-16 at the Electric City Invite in Anderson, South Carolina, hosted by Anderson University.
