Tornados Compete at CIU Invitational in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Brevard College track & field team competed in the CIU Rams Invitational, hosted by Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina. The Tornados competed in the second day of the event held on Saturday.

George Wells turned in one of the top performances for the Tornados, placing eighth in the 1500-meter race, finishing with a 4:06.45. Wells also turned in a top-15 finish in the men's 400-meter dash, placing 14th with a 53.48, while Rami Kadri finished 16th in the same event, running a 53.81.

Gabriel Covington led the men's squad in the throwing category, finishing in 13th place in the men's shot put with a 10.38m throw. Covington turned in a top-15 finish in the discus with a 29.86m to finish in 15th position.

In her first race at Brevard College, sophomore dual-sport athlete Channing Barker placed seventh in the women's 800-meter, running the race in 2:30.49. Haylea-Layne Miller finished seventh in the women's 400m hurdles with a 1:15.14 to round out BC's top running performances on the women's side.

Avery Lockwood finished in 19th in the women's shot put with a 9.09m result, while Grace Pukas and Breanna Queen finished 20th and 21st, respectively, with attempts of 21.21m and 20.85m.

The Tornados will return to action on Friday and Saturday, March 25-26, at the Montreat Invitational hosted by Montreat College in nearby Montreat, North Carolina.
