MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Brevard College softball team (6-22, 2-14 USA South) dropped both games of a doubleheader at Pfeiffer (27-11, 15-3 USA South) on Saturday afternoon in Misenheimer, North Carolina.
In game one of the doubleheader, Pfeiffer used three pitchers - Kali Morton, Kenzi Lyall, and Sadie Lee to combine for a no-hitter in the 14-0 win.
For Brevard, pitchers Abbie Delp, Lindsey Tolle, and Kennedy Fennel all saw time in the circle. Tolle did not allow an earned run in 1.2 innings pitched, yet did allow five runs due to Tornado defensive miscues. Fennell did not allow a hit or a run in 0.2 innings of work.
The Falcons scored one run in the first inning, before punching in three runs in both the second and third innings. Pfeiffer then exploded with seven runs in the fourth inning to propel the hosts to the run-rule victory.
In game two of the twin bill, Pfeiffer's pitching again shut out the Tornados with Kali Morton (15-3) allowing no runs on two hits with 14 strikeouts and no walks.
Starting pitcher Grace Reynolds pitched the full six innings for Brevard, allowing five runs on ten hits.
Center fielder Beth Hyatt and Gaby Hooper each hit singles for the Tornados as the lone BC hits on the day. Shortstop Mikayla Morgan did reach base in the game's first at-bat, then stole second. Morgan however was stranded after back-to-back strikeouts by Morton to end Brevard's threat.
Pfeiffer scored a run in both the second and third innings before adding three runs in the fifth en route to the 5-0 victory to sweep the doubleheader.
Brevard will play its regular-season finale on Sunday with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the BC Softball Field.
