Tornados Swept in Conference Road Tilt

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Brevard College softball team (6-20, 2-12 USAS) was swept in a USA South Conference road doubleheader by host Greensboro College (30-6, 13-2 USAS) on Tuesday afternoon in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Greensboro won the first game 9-0 before taking game two 10-0 to complete the sweep.

GAME ONE - GREENSBORO 9, BREVARD 0 (5 inn.)

Greensboro scored eight runs in the first inning en route to the run-rule victory.  Following the difficult first frame, BC's pitching and defense held the Pride to just one run over the next four innings, including three scoreless frames.

Sophomore pitcher Abby Delp came on in relief of starter Lindsey Tolle and went 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on nine hits with a strikeout.

Kassie Simmons (12-4) earned the win for the Pride, allowing just two hits in five shutout innings to go along with six strikeouts and a walk.

Left fielder Karley Queen and right fielder Jasmine Webb recorded Brevard's lone hits in the contest with each player each hitting a single.  Queen also stole a base to put herself in scoring position in the bottom of the first, but Greensboro was able to strand the Tornado baserunner to end the scoring threat.

Second baseman Ivelysse Leighton was the only other Tornado to reach base, drawing a walk in the second inning before being forced out at second on a fielder's choice.

GAME TWO – GREENSBORO 10, BREVARD 0

A 3-0 ballgame after five innings went the way of the Pride who exploded for three runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to take the 10-0 victory.

Starting pitcher Grace Reynolds held the Pride in check for the initial five innings including a three-inning scoreless stretch from the second through the fourth frames.

Lauren Engle (17-2) was the winning pitcher for Greensboro going a complete seven shutout innings allowing three hits.  With 25 batters faced, Engle struck out five and walked one en route to the win.

Kaley Walker led the Pride offensively going 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Leadoff hitter Beth Hyatt hit a single as did designated player Cassie Plemmons and third baseman Olivia Martinez to combine for BC's only three hits of the contest.

Brevard will return to USA South Conference play on Saturday at Pfeiffer with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. in Misenheimer, North Carolina.  The Tornados then return home for their season-finale on Sunday vs. Methodist at the BC Softball Field.
