Pacers Sweep Tornados in Conference Action Friday

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Brevard College softball team (6-16, 2-8 USA South) fell 9-0 and 7-1 in a pair of USA South Conference contests at William Peace University (12-18, 3-9 USAS) on Friday afternoon in Raleigh, North Carolina. 

GAME ONE - WPU 9, BREVARD 0

The Tornados were held scoreless in game number one as William Peace scored in five consecutive innings to take the 9-0 win. 

BC's Karley Queen recorded the lone hit for the Tornados, while Abby Delp (2-8) logged two and 1/3 innings of three-run ball. Lindsey Tolle and Kennedy Fennell also saw action in the circle for the Tornados. 

Delp and the Tornado defense held WPU scoreless in the first two frames, but William Peace struck for three runs in the third before adding a run in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. 

The hosts scored a pair in the fifth followed by one run in the sixth, capping their win off with two runs in the seventh inning for the 9-0 win. 

WPU's Katherine Murphy (11-6) pitched a complete-game shutout gem, allowing just one hit with 12 strikeouts.

GAME TWO - WPU 7, BREVARD 1

BC was able to get on the scoreboard in game number two, scoring first with a run in the second frame. However, the Pacers scored seven unanswered runs to clinch the doubleheader sweep. 

Mikayla Morgan went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Lauren Mann had BC's lone extra-base hit with a double. Hooper, Serena Rodgers Luckey, and Jasmine Webb also recorded base hits in the game, while Webb brought Rodgers-Luckey in to score for the Tornados. 

Grace Reynolds (4-5) got the ball for BC in game two, pitching all seven innings with seven runs allowed (five earned runs) on 12 hits with a strikeout. 

WPU had five different hitters with two-hit performances in the back end of the doubleheader. Anna Suggs (6-7) went the distance, allowing just one run on six hits with six strikeouts. 

Brevard heads to Rocky Mount, North Carolina on Sunday at 12 and 2 p.m. in a weather-adjusted schedule change as BC returns to conference play at NC Wesleyan University.
