Softball Shutout by Pride in First Game; Game Two Washed Out

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College softball team (3-4) fell 8-0 to Greensboro College (7-1) in the front end of an originally scheduled non-conference doubleheader at the BC Softball Field. Game two was called in the top of the fourth inning due to heavy rain in the Brevard area, and has been canceled.

Taylor Hannah collected the lone hit for the Tornados in the matchup, while also reaching base twice more on a hit-by-pitch and a fielding error by Greensboro.

Kaitlynn Farmer (2-1) was saddled with the loss, while freshman Abby Delp lasted 3 and 2/3 innings allowing just five hits without an earned run.

The Pride were able to jump on the Tornados early in the game one contest.

Greensboro batted around in the top of the first inning, using three hits and an error to take a 5-0 lead early. The Pride were able to score a pair in the second before and then sat Brevard down, as Pride pitcher Cheyenne Cox (5-1) struck out 12 batters in the contest.

The Pride used a costly Brevard error in the top of the fourth inning to take an 8-0 lead. After being sat down in order in the bottom of the fifth, BC got a pair of baserunners on board with an error and Brevard's first hit of the day, but Greensboro settled down and clinched the contest, winning via run rule after the fifth inning, 8-0.

Brevard was slated to travel to Waleska, Georgia to play Reinhardt, however, heavy rain in the Georgia area has made two institutions reschedule the contests for March 30.

BC is back in action at home on Sunday, March 13 against Converse College at 12 and 2 p.m.
