CHARLOTTESVILLE , Va. - The Brevard College men's tennis team (5-12, 3-4 USA South) concluded its 2022-23 regular season with a 9-0 defeat to host Southern Virginia (9-3, 6-1 USAS) on Saturday afternoon in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Tornados will now turn their attention to the USA South Conference Tournament with a First Round match scheduled for Monday at Methodist in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
In Saturday's match, Southern Virginia ran out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. The Knights began with an 8-1 victory in no. 1 doubles as Marcos Dias and Ethan Campbell defeated BC's Bryce Bernitt and Noah Lewis 8-1. Brevard's Ethan McGee and James Srsich dropped an 8-2 match to Adam Kelly and Mario Perez in number two doubles.
The most competitive doubles match of the day came in the no. 3 slot as BC's JaMarcus Walker and Brian Seon battled Spencer Knight and Thomas Christensen to an 8-5 defeat.
Walker (no. 6 ) and Seon (no. 5) each dropped their singles matches in an 8-7 one-set tiebreaker. Lewis and Christensen dueled in the next most competitive match of singles play with the SVU Knight taking no. 4 singles 6-4, 6-4.
The Knights won number one through three singles in straight sets to take the 9-0 sweep of the match.
Brevard will be on the road for its First Round match in the USA South Conference Men's Tennis Championship Tournament. The fifth-seeded Tornados will play at no. 4 seed Methodist on Monday with the winner facing no. 1 seed N.C. Wesleyan in the tournament's semifinals. Monday's first serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
