Tornados Cruise to Victory in Spring Opener
BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's tennis team opened its 2023 campaign with a 7-2 victory over Johnson & Wales in windy conditions on Friday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
 
BC opened with a pair of doubles wins to take an early advantage.  Ethan McGee and Noah Lewis won in number one doubles 8-2, while the team of James Srsich and JaMarcus Walker made quick work of their opponents with an 8-1 in number three doubles.
 
JWU prevailed in number two doubles as Jonathan Millwood and Sam Cicciarello topped BC's team of Bryce Bernitt and Devin Horton by the score of 8-6.
 
Ahead 2-1 entering singles play, the Tornados required three wins to earn the team victory. Srsich was lightning quick in his performance, blanking his competition 6-0, 6-0 in number five singles.
 
Next to finish was Brian Seon who celebrated his birthday with a 6-3, 6-3 victory in number six singles.  
 
Needing just one more win to clinch the victory, McGee delivered for the Tornados with a straight set 6-4, 6-3 win in no. 2 singles.
 
Lewis also won in straight sets 6-1, 7-5 to take the number four singles match victory.  Bernitt battled JWU's Samuel Wilder for three sets en route to a 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 winning result.
 
Brevard returns to action for its second match of the season vs. Piedmont on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
