Tornados Sweep Maryville on Senior Day, Look Forward to Postseason

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's tennis team (6-13, 3-3 USAS) swept USA South Conference opponent Maryville (3-10, 1-5 USAS) 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.  The Tornados will now look forward to a postseason trip to the USA South Conference Tournament, the program's first postseason appearance since the South Atlantic Conference Tournament in 2010-11.

The win came on Senior Day at Brevard College as seniors Andrew Ingram and Alex Glaze were honored in a special pre-match ceremony.

Brevard opened the match with an authoritative win in number two doubles as the team of Devin Horton and Bryce Burnitt blanked their opponents 8-0.   Junior Ethan McGee and freshman Noah Lewis then took care of business with an 8-4 win no. 1 singles over Maryville's Kyle Shaver and Cooper Newman.

Number three doubles also went the way of the Tornados as James Srsich and JaMarcus Walker won 8-5 to give BC a 3-0 lead into singles play.

Lewis and Horton each shut out their opponents 6-0, 6-0 in number three and four singles respectively to clinch the team win for the Tornados.

Glaze followed with a fitting Senior Day victory, also coming in straight sets.  The senior from Columbia, South Carolina did not lose a game in the first set followed by a 6-4 win in set two to finish off the win.

The match concluded with three matches which all went to third-set tiebreakers.  McGee (no. 1 singles), Burnitt (no. 2), and Srsich (no. 5) all won via tiebreakers.  McGee's marathon match vs. Maryville's Shaver also included a 7-6 tiebreaker win in set one.

The day began with a pre-match ceremony with the entire BC men's and women's tennis teams, along with numerous supporters of the program, in attendance.  Ingram, a graduating senior from Belmont, North Carolina, is set to graduate with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Business Organization and Leadership.  Glaze, a dual-sport athlete who also competed for the BC Men's Basketball program, will graduate with a degree in Criminal Justice.

Brevard will now turn its sights on the USA South Conference Tournament which takes place April 28-30 in Rome, Georgia. Stay tuned to www.bctornados.com or usasouth.net for seedlings, schedules, and tournament information as it is announced.
