BEREA, Ky. - The Brevard College men's tennis team (4-12, 1-2 USAS) edged host Berea College (1-5, 1-2 USAS) 5-4 in a USA South Conference road match in Berea, Kentucky.  The win marked the first conference victory of the season for the Tornados who took a 4-2 lead in the all-time series with Berea.

BC opened the match by taking a 2-1 lead in doubles play. The all-freshman team of Brian Seon and Peter Bresko won 8-3 in number two doubles to give BC an early lead in the overall match score.  BC's number three doubles team of junior Dalean Gray and sophomore Hunter Williams followed with an 8-5 victory. 

Number one doubles proved to be a battle as Berea's Lavar Pharris and Bogdan Petric ultimately topped BC's Ethan McGee and Bryce Bernitt 8-7 with a tiebreaker.

Ahead 2-1 after doubles play, BC needed to win three of its singles matches to capture the team victory.  Dual-sport athlete Alex Glaze, a senior who is also a member of the Tornados basketball team, won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, in no. 6 singles which gave BC its third win of the match. Williams concurrently gave BC a fourth win with a 6-2, 6-4 victory in no. 3 singles. 

Berea meanwhile won in no. 2, no. 4, and no. 5 singles to knot the match up at 4-4 with only the result of number-one singles remaining.  McGee and Pharris battled, splitting the first two sets.  In the third set, McGee, a junior from Salisbury, North Carolina, ultimately prevailed in a back-and-forth 7-5 victory to clinch the team win for the Tornados.

Brevard will be back in action on Wednesday with a trip to Demorest, Georgia to take on Piedmont University in another road USA South Conference match.  Match time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
