Panthers Top Tornados in Conference Match

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's tennis team (3-12, 0-2 USAS) were topped by LaGrange College (2-3, 1-0 USAS) 6-3 in a USA South Conference matchup on a windy Saturday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.

BC opened the competition on a high note as the newly formed number three doubles team of junior JaMarcus Walker and freshman Noah Lewis dominated its match en route to a 8-1 win.  The Panthers however garnered wins in both number one and two singles to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.

Walker again was first to finish in singles competition as the Seneca, South Carolina native blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0 to tie the team score up at 2-2.

LaGrange would go on to win four of the remaining five singles matches to clinch the team victory.

The tightest match of the day proved to be in number one singles as BC's Ethan McGee battled with Al Robertson of the Panthers.  Robertson won the first set 6-2, but McGee answered with a 6-2 win of his own in set number two.  Set number three was a back-and-forth affair, eventually making its way to a tiebreaker.  McGee, a junior from Salisbury, North Carolina, prevailed with a 7-3 win in the tiebreak to secure the three-set victory.

BC junior James Srsich also took his opponent to a third set, however LC's Joshua Hembree ultimately won in set number three.

Brevard will return to action on Saturday, April 2 with a USA South match at Berea in Berea, Kentucky.
