Walker of Brevard College Selected for NCAA Student Immersion Program

INDIANAPOLIS – Brevard College student-athlete JaMarcus Walker (Men's Tennis) has been selected to participate in the 2022 NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program in conjunction with the annual NCAA Convention.  The year's NCAA Convention will be held January 19-22, 2022 in downtown Indianapolis.

Walker, a member of the Tornado men's tennis team, is a junior pursuing a degree in Business and Organizational Leadership from Brevard College.  A native of Seneca, South Carolina, Walker currently holds the position of Vice President for BC's SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Board).  The Vice President of the college's Black Student Union, he also serves as a Peer Leader, a Resident Advisor and is a member of CAB (Campus Activities Board) as well as the Business and Leadership Club.  Currently a work-study student at the Brevard College Department of Athletics, Walker has also worked in game-day athletic operations at both Clemson University and Furman University.

Walker is one of just 40 total student-athletes nationwide selected for the program which is designed for ethnic minority students who have an interest in a career in NCAA Division III coaching or athletics administration.  Walker will travel to Indianapolis where he will experience a magnitude of Division III and general college athletics programming to help prepare for a potential career in athletics.

The members of the immersion program will participate in programming specific to student-athletes and will have the opportunity to attend the legislative voting session. Walker will also receive DiSC training, and participate in welcome and debrief meetings. The goal of the Immersion Program is to build a pipeline of talented ethnic minority candidates, with an interest in Division III coaching and/or administration, in an effort to ultimately diversify the division.

It marks the third straight season that a Brevard College student-athlete has been selected into the NCAA Student Immersion program with Walker becoming the fifth Tornado to earn the elite opportunity.  BC's Josh Romero (Football) and Diana Loaiza (Women's Lacrosse) both attended the 2019-20 event, with each going on to secure assistant coaching jobs at Brevard College following graduation.  The 2020-21 immersion program included the selections of Amy Juarez (Women's Soccer) and Jose "Fish" Sanchez (Men's Soccer).
