BC Men’s Soccer Earns Six Selections on USA South All-Tournament Team; da Silva Named MVP

BREVARD, N.C. - Following the conclusion of a 2022 USA South Conference Men's Soccer Tournament that saw Brevard College capture the program's first conference title and earn its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth, six Tornados were selected to the All-Tournament team with Igor da Silva being named the Tournament MVP. The selections marked the first All-Tournament honorees in the USA South for any sport at BC. Da Silva (MVP), Rocco Barbon, Tom Dussauge, Rodrigo Garcia, Ryan Lynch, and Matheus Rossi were all selected to the team.

Da Silva, a junior midfielder from Americana, Brazil, broke out during the USA South Tournament, scoring the game-winning goal in the 109th minute in the semifinals at NC Wesleyan University before scoring an 85th-minute match-tying goal in the championship at William Peace University. Overall this season, da Silva tallied five goals with two assists en route to a USA South All-Conference Second Team selection. Da Silva is no stranger to big-time postseason goals, as his one and only goal of his freshman season came in the Spring 2021 USA South West Division Tournament vs. Piedmont University.

Barbon, a sophomore defender from Treviso, Italy, earned the honor alongside fellow center-back Dussauge as the Tornado defense smothered the opposition, allowing a pair of goals in 330 minutes of action over the course of the three-match run in the Tournament. Barbon scored one goal while playing and starting in 19 matches for Brevard this season – earning an All-Conference First Team honor along the way. Dussauge, a sophomore defender from Saint George, France, played in all 20 games for Brevard this season with 18 starts.

Garcia, a sophomore midfielder from Jundiai, Brazil, played in all 20 matches for the Tornados with 16 starts, assisting on BC's first goal in its 2-1 overtime win in the semifinals at NC Wesleyan.

Lynch, a junior forward by way of Charlotte, North Carolina, had enjoyed a record-breaking campaign for Brevard before cementing his legacy with the Tornado championship run. Lynch scored a pair of goals in the Tournament, including the game-winner in the 109th minute of the championship match. Lynch set the program's NCAA-era records for single-season goals (14) and points (33) alongside the program's career records for goals (21) and points (49), en route to earning two USA South Player of the Week awards and a selection onto the All-Conference First Team.

Rossi, a freshman goalkeeper hailing from Victoria, E.S., Brazil, has been the main contributor for the Tornados between the sticks this season, logging 1,575 total minutes of game action in 19 matches played while making 16 starts. Rossi has totaled 53 saves this season and allowed just 16 goals (0.91 goals-against-average) while earning a 12-5-2 record and eight total shutouts (six solo, two combined). In the USA South Tournament, Rossie played and started all three matches logging 330 minutes, totaling 11 saves with one shutout performance in the scoreless draw in the first round vs. Greensboro.

The Tornados will find out their NCAA Tournament draw at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 7 as part of a Selection Show aired live on NCAA.com. The first and second rounds will take place on Saturday and Sunday, November 12-13.
