Tornados Drop Nail Biter at Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Brevard College men's soccer team (9-5-1, 3-2-0 USAS) fell 2-1 in a tight contest at host Methodist University (8-2-4, 4-1-1 USAS) in USA South Conference competition on Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Senior Luis dos Santos scored his third goal of the season off an assist by Filipe Tchoulkov in the 19th minute to give BC the initial 1-0 lead.  It marked the second assist in a Tornado uniform for Tchoulkov, a junior midfielder from Quarteira, Portugal.

With time expiring in the first half, Methodist found an equalizer with an unassisted goal by Jaysee Gleesen. The goal, with just 30 seconds remaining in the opening period, made the score even at 1-1 heading into intermission.

The second half saw stout defense on both sides as the score remained 1-1 for the first 26 minutes of the final stanza.  The home team would strike again, this time on an unassisted goal by David Ospina to increase the lead to 2-1.

Brevard had several chances in the second half, firing off eight shots yet unable to again find the back of the net following the initial goal by dos Santos.

In total, BC outshot the Monarchs 15-8 for the game and held Methodist to just three shots in the second half.

Brevard's Ryan Lynch led all players with four shot attempts with two on goal.  Dos Santos recorded three shots, while eight different Tornados each registered one shot each.

Matheus Rossi played all 90 minutes in goal for Brevard. Methodist goalkeeper Matthew Walker earned the win with five saves.

Brevard returns to action with a conference home match vs. Greensboro, 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
