DANVILLE, Ky. - Junior midfielder Luis dos Santos found the back of the net in the 76th minute to lift the Brevard College men's soccer team (3-3) to a hard-fought 1-0 decision over Centre College (0-4-1) on Saturday afternoon in Danville, Kentucky.
Dos Santos, a junior from São Paolo, Brazil, scored his second goal of the season - this one off an Estevan Berto assist - to lift the Tornados to their third-straight win.
Matheus Rossi (2-2) recorded his second career shutout in the victory, making two saves to keep the clean sheet for the Tornados. Dos Santos led all Tornados with three shot attempts while Ryan Lynch added two. Berto, Caue dos Santos, and Sam O'Callaghan all took shot attempts for Brevard in the game.
As a team, the shot total for both sides was equal, 8-8. BC made two saves to Centre's one in the defensive matchup, while the hosts took four corner kicks.
Brevard came out firing early, recording three shot attempts within the game's first four minutes but were held without a shot until O'Callaghan's attempt in the 41st minute. The two sides went into halftime level, 0-0.
The Tornados outshot Centre 3-1 through the first 25 minutes of action in the second half before Luis dos Santos found the back of the net in the 76th minute of action. Brady Tesch played a through ball to Berto on the left side, and Berto waited on a perfect run by Luis dos Santos, who headed the cross home to put the Tornados on the board.
Centre took two shot attempts in the last 14 minutes of action but was unable to find the equalizer as the Tornados held on for their third win in a row, 1-0.
Brevard hosts its first home regular season contest of the 2022 season on Wednesday, September 21 against former USA South Conference foe Berea College at 5 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
