Tornados Capture First Win of 2022 with Shutout at Bob Jones

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Brevard College men's soccer team (1-3-0) earned its first win of the 2022 season with a 2-0 shutout victory over host Bob Jones University (0-2-0) on Saturday night at the Legacy Early College Soccer Complex.

Junior Ryan Lynch opened the scoring with what proved to be the game-winning goal on strike assisted by Igor da Silva in the 24th minute.  It marked the first goal of the season and the eighth in the collegiate career for the forward from Charlotte, North Carolina.
 
The score remained 1-0 for the remaining 21 minutes of the first half with both defenses limiting offensive chances by their opponents. For the entire first half, the BC defense held Bob Jones to just three total shots.
 
Just under seven minutes into the second half, Sam O'Callaghan would set up da Silva for an insurance goal to put BC ahead 2-0.  It marked the second goal of the season for da Silva and the first assist of the year for O'Callaghan. 
 
Freshman goalkeeper Matheus Rossi, the reigning USA South Defensive Player of the Week, earned his first career win and first career shutout as a collegiate player.  
 
For the game. BC outshot Bob Jones 9-7 with Lynch leading all players on the pitch with seven shots and three shots-on-goal.
 
Brevard returns to action on Wednesday with a trip to nearby Swannanoa, North Carolina to visit Warren Wilson College with game time set for 5 p.m.
