Three Tornados Earn All-State Accolades from NCCSIA

BREVARD, N.C. – Sophomore defender Sam O'Callaghan became the first Tornado in program history selected to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association's (NCCSIA) All-State First Team, while sophomore Estevan Berto and senior Adam Spencer were voted All-State Second Team as the Brevard College men's soccer team placed a record three student-athletes on the All-State Team – College Division.

The trio joins BC alum Matheus Masukawa as the only Tornados ever voted to the NCCSIA's All-State Team, which has been distributing awards yearly since 2002.

O'Callaghan, a sophomore from Wicklow, Ireland, adds to his growing list of accolades for the Fall 2021 season. The defender was selected to the USA South All-Conference First Team, a USA South All-West Division First Team honor, and BC men's soccer's first-ever All-Region selection on the United Soccer Coaches All-Region VI Third Team.

O'Callaghan scored twice while assisting on three goals for a total of seven points this season, while also converting on both of his penalty kick attempts. In 25 total matches in his two seasons at Brevard, O'Callaghan has totaled three goals and distributed seven assists for a total of 13 points.

Berto, a sophomore midfielder from Sao Paulo, Brazil, made 13 appearances and 12 starts in 2021, scoring three goals and dishing out a team-high five assists for 11 points. Berto has accumulated five goals and seven assists to total 17 points in his two seasons at Brevard.

Spencer, a fifth-year senior from Mooresville, North Carolina, concluded his Tornado career in emphatic fashion in the 2021 season. The forward logged a team-high five goals for 10 points in 13 appearances, which included 10 starts. Spencer became BC men's soccer's NCAA-era record holder for career goals (15) and points (35). In the shortened Spring 2021 season, Spencer was named to the USA South All-West Division First Team, USA South All-Sportsmanship Team, and United Soccer Coaches Men's Scholar All-Region Team.

Brevard, under the direction of Head Coach Helio "L" D'Anna, Associate Head Coach Juan Mascaro Jr., and Volunteer Assistant Coach Mario Pinto, qualified for its third-straight postseason in the Fall of 2021. BC finished its season with an impressive 9-4-3 overall record that included a 2-2-2 mark in conference play, earning the West Division's third seed in the 2021 USA South Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.
