Overtime Goal Eliminates Tornados from USA South Tournament

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Brevard College men's soccer team (9-4-3) fell in heartbreaking fashion, 1-0, to the NC Wesleyan Battling Bishops in an overtime classic in the first round of the USA South Conference Men's Soccer Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. 

Thiago Leopardi, a sophomore goalkeeper from Jundia, Brazil, stopped a career-high eight shots in the contest, while Estevan Berto took a team-high eight shots. 

The Tornados played through the final 10 minutes of regulation and the entire overtime period man-down, battling to the end of the contest as the Battling Bishops scored the Golden goal in the final seconds of the first overtime. 

NC Wesleyan outshot the Tornados slightly, 18-14 while winning 10 corner kicks to Brevard's one. 

NCWC slightly outshot the Tornados, 6-5, in the first half, before both teams were even 7-7 in the second stanza. The hosts outpaced the Tornados, who were a man down, 5-2 before scoring the game-winner in overtime. 

The loss concludes the Fall 2021 season for the Tornados, who qualified for postseason play for the third consecutive season.
