LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Brevard College men's soccer team (9-3-3, 2-2-2 USAS) defeated host LaGrange (6-5-1, 2-3-1 USAS), 1-0, in a critical USA South Conference West Division matchup on Saturday afternoon in LaGrange, Georgia.

The victory secured BC men's soccer's third-straight postseason berth, as the Tornados appeared in the 2019 ECAC Men's Soccer Championships before winning the Spring 2021 USA South Conference West Division Championship.

The game-winning goal came on a beautiful strike by Brevard sophomore Wendel Lima, his second goal of the season, on an assist by sophomore Estevan Berto in the 64th minute.  It marked the team-best fifth assist of the season for Berto and the second assist in as many games for the sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The Tornado defense continued to hold the Panthers scoreless from there not allowing a single shot in the final 26 minutes to take the 1-0 shutout victory.  In total, it marked the seventh shutout in 15 matches for the Tornados this season.  BC's defense has held its opponents to a 0.89 goals-against-average this season.

Sophomore Thiago Leopardi, a USA South Conference Defensive Player of the Week from earlier this season, played all 90 minutes in the net for the Tornados.  Leopardi registered three saves en route to his fifth victory of the season.

Brevard outshot LaGrange, 20-11, in the contest with seven shots on goal.  Forward Ryan Lynch led all players with four shots, with two on goal.  Berto attempted three shots, while Adam Spencer, Rodrigo Garcia, Facundo Sunhary, Sam O'Callaghan and Trystan Wallace each registered two shots.  Inigo Satrustegui, Ryan Sinkamba, and Wendel Lima each fired off shots as well with Lima's proving to be the game-winner.
