Tornados Top Warren Wilson in Non-Conference Action

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's soccer team (7-2-3) defeated visiting Warren Wilson College (0-11) 2-0 in a non-conference match on a clear Wednesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Ryan Lynch scored the game-winning goal in the 23rdminute off an assist by Rodrigo Garcia.  It marked the fourth goal of the season for Lynch and the first career assist for Garcia, a freshman from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The score remained 1-0 through the end of the first half, despite a whopping shot advantage and several scoring opportunities.

Following the intermission, Brevard was able to add an insurance goal following a foul resulting in a yellow card by Warren Wilson in the 48th minute.  The infraction occurred in the penalty box which gave the Tornados a penalty kick situation.  Sophomore captain Sam O'Callaghan expertly handled the PK duties with a well-placed ball into the back of the net, his second goal of the season both of which have come on penalty kicks.

Brevard outshot Warren Wilson 33-5 en route to the victory.  Lynch led all players with nine shots, three on goal.  Senior Adam Spencer registered five shots, while sophomore Wendel Lima fired off three shots, two on goal.   The 33 shots marked a season high for Brevard, one better than the previous high of 32 shots vs. Huntingdon on September 25.

Senior goalkeeper Jack Pruehs started the contest and did not allow a goal in the first half.  Sophomore Otis Kahar played goalkeeper for the Tornados for a second-half shutout.

A grand total of 31 Tornados saw action in the contest with 20 substitutes entering the match in relief of the starting 11.

Brevard will return to action with a key USA South Conference contest vs. Maryville College on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  Saturday will also mark Senior Day for the BC men's soccer senior class of Antonio Ferreira, David Garrett, Jack Pruehs, Greg Sellers, Jose Vela, and Juan Martin Ycaza.
