Lions Strike Early in Victory over Tornados

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Brevard College men's soccer team (5-2-3, 0-1-2 USAS) fell behind early to Piedmont University (5-6-0, 1-1-0 USAS) and wasn't able to battle back, as the Lions pulled away with a 4-0 victory on a rainy Tuesday evening in Demorest, Georgia.

Brevard fell despite outshooting the Lions, 22-13, and in spite of controlling nine corner kicks to Piedmont's three.

Senior goalkeeper Jack Pruehs (2-2-1) made the start for the Tornados, stopping a pair of shots in the defeat. Ryan Lynch led all BC attackers with four shots, while Rodrigo Garcia and Wendel Lima each tallied three shot attempts.

Cameron Earls scored four goals total to carry the Lions towards victory, striking for a pair of early goals in the first eight minutes before adding two early in the second half. Bryson Teal logged a pair of assists, while Bradley Geiger added an assist. CJ Wyborn kept the Tornados off the score sheet with six saves en route to the shutout.

Lynch forced a Piedmont save within the first 30 seconds of action before Earls connected on his first goal of the contest, taking a long pass from Geiger that beat a pair of Tornado defenders, slotting the ball into the left corner of the goal in the second minute to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.

Piedmont was able to double their advantage in the eighth minute following a free kick deflection, as Teal whipped the ball directly back into the box to find a streaking Earls, who headed it home to push the score to a 2-0 margin.

Brevard was able to fire 12 more shots and win seven corner kicks through the final 35-plus minutes of the first half, but the score remained a 2-0 Piedmont lead through intermission.

Brevard was able to outshoot the Lions 13-6 in the first half and control seven corner kicks to Piedmont's two, however, Earls' pair of goals proved the difference entering the second stanza.

Seven minutes into the second half of action, Teal connected with Earls again to make the score 3-0 in favor of Piedmont. Earls would find the back of the net in the 54th minute off a rebound of his own shot, pushing the Lion lead to a 4-0 margin that they would not relinquish, as Piedmont picked up the home conference win over Brevard.

The Tornados will return to action on Saturday when Brevard travels to Berea, Kentucky to face Berea College beginning at 4 p.m.
