Spencer Breaks Program Records as Tornados Down Wasps on Sunday

EMORY, Va. - Senior forward Adam Spencer scored the 13th goal and 31st point of his Tornado career, breaking the Brevard College men's soccer career NCAA era mark for career goals and points, as BC (4-1-1) defeated Emory & Henry College (1-4) by a 2-1 final score on Sunday afternoon.

Spencer, a native of Mooresville, North Carolina, put his record-breaking score in the back of the net in the 64th minute, breaking a scoreless tie for the two sides as Estevan Berto tallied an assist on the strike. Ryan Sinkamba continued his solid form with his second goal in as many games on a Trystan Wallace assist.

Thiago Leopardi (2-0-1) recorded his second victory of the season to remain unbeaten, logging 90 minutes in goal with a save. Emory & Henry keeper Spencer Scott racked up 10 saves to keep the Wasps within striking distance.

Brevard dominated the shooting and possession throughout the contest, outshooting the Wasps 26-7 including a 14-2 margin in the first half. BC won all nine corner kicks in the match as well.

The first half saw Brevard rack up 14 shots and force eight Wasp saves, as both teams remained scoreless through intermission.

Spencer's record-breaking goal came in the 64th minute as the senior intercepted a pass deep in EHC's half of the field and played it to Berto, who gave it right back to Spencer before he ripped a shot into the left corner of the net.

BC was able to double their advantage in the 83rd minute when Wallace was played through by Ryan Lynch on the left side of the box. Wallace settled as support came, and whipped in a cross that found Sinkama on the top right side of the box. The sophomore from Lusaka, Zambia ripped it into the right side of the net to give the Tornados a 2-0 advantage.

Sinkamba's goal proved the game-winner, as EHC got on the board with three minutes left to play to cut BC's lead to a one-goal margin, 2-1. The Wasps ripped another shot with two minutes left that went out left, as Brevard held on for their fourth victory of Fall 2021.

BC's three-match road swing concludes on Wednesday, September 22 when the Tornados travel to Greensboro, North Carolina to take on Greensboro College at 7 p.m.
