BREVARD, N.C. - Sophomore midfielder Estevan Berto recorded a pair of goals and an assist in a career effort to help the Brevard College men's soccer team (2-1) cruise past Southern Virginia (0-2), 4-0, on Tuesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Berto, a sophomore from São Paulo, Brazil, was involved in three of BC's four goals in the contest, with senior forward Adam Spencer connecting for his first goal of the season and freshman defender Rocco Barbon logging the first goal of his collegiate career. Wendel Lima and Sam O'Callaghan also recorded assists in the big victory for Brevard.

The scoring got going early for the Tornados, as a wonderfully executed set piece in the sixth minute resulted in Berto's first score. Lima flicked the ball onto Berto, who gathered and fired a left-footed top that found the back of the right side of the net,  giving Brevard the early advantage.

After a foul near the far sideline, the Tornados were awarded a free kick from nearly 40-yards out. Berto stepped up to take the spot-kick and delivered a fantastic ball that looped over the outstretched arms of the SVU goalkeeper and into the back of the net, doubling Brevard's advantage.

Spencer, making his Fall 2021 season debut in reserve action, gathered a loose ball in the SVU half of the field and sprinted goalward, slotting home the ball to push Brevard's lead to a 3-0 margin that the Tornados would take into the intermission.

With just under six minutes elapsed in the second half, BC struck again as O'Callaghan found Berto, who whipped the ball into the box and found Barbon who headed it home to put the Tornados on top, 4-0. BC would continue to stifle the Knights defensively for the remainder of the contest, securing the home victory.

The Tornados held a commanding 22-5 shot advantage and won six total corner kicks, compared to SVU's two.

Brevard will return to action, closing out their four-match homestand on Saturday at 5 p.m. against The University of the South.
