Greensboro Outlasts Brevard in Rain-Soaked Matchup, 12-7

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (2-11, 0-6 USA South) battled hard but fell 12-7 to visiting Greensboro College (5-7, 2-1 USAS) on a cold and rain-drenched day at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Parker Corbett, a graduate transfer attacker, scored a team-best three goals to lead the offensive output. Andrew McDonald added a goal and three assists, while Henry Konsker, Drew Pond, and Nate Stone also added goals. Jack Hicks totaled a season-high 22 saves and added nine ground balls to anchor the BC defense.

Greensboro had four players score multiple goals in the contest, as Austin Abourjilie, Billy Phinizy, and Dom Scali all scored three goals apiece. Will Beyer logged four assists in the matchup.

GC outshot Brevard 54-37 and held a 53-40 ground ball edge. The Pride were able to go 23-for-27 on clear attempts to Brevard's 22-for-30.

Greensboro started out controlling the first period of action, scoring four goals while shutting out the Tornados on offense for a 4-0 lead after the first quarter of play.

Brevard answered back with consecutive goals from Konsker and McDonald, as the Tornados cut the deficit in half 4-2 halfway through the second period. Greensboro responded with two goals in a row to close the first half and take a four goal lead, 6-2, into the intermission.

Greensboro's Leo Ringleburg scored in the first five minutes of the third quarter to extend the Pride lead to a five-goal margin, 7-2. Corbett and Pond traded goals with Abourjille and Scali as GC held a 9-4 lead going into the final quarter of play.

BC scored three of the next four goals in the fourth period to cut the deficit to three, 10-7, with 4:36 remaining in the contest, but the Pride were able to strike for two more insurance goals and hold off a late Tornado rally for the 12-7 win.

Brevard returns to action next weekend on the road, as the Tornados head to Fayetteville, North Carolina to face Methodist University on Saturday, April 15 at 12 p.m.
