Seniors Honored Pre-Game, Johnson Breaks Single-Season Caused Turnovers Record in Season Finale

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (2-12, 1-8 USA South) honored its seniors - Nate Ellen, Evan Francois, and Devin McCarragher - in its season finale against Piedmont University (10-7, 8-1 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

The Lions, who secured the number-two seed in the USA South Men's Lacrosse Tournament, defeated Brevard 28-4.

In the win, freshman defender Evan Johnson caused three turnovers, giving him a total of 31 on the season. The mark sets the program's new single-season record for caused turnovers.

Francois, one of three seniors honored, scored a goal and assisted on another in his final career game with the Tornados. Trystan Wallace added two scores and an assist, while Frankie Howard scored a goal and Andrew McDonald tallied an assist.

Senior McCarragher made 13 saves in his final collegiate contest, while senior Ellen took three shots and had a ground ball.

Piedmont's Brady McGuire had a team-high five goals with Avery Jenks adding four scores and two assists to pace the Lion offense. The Lions held a 60-24 advantage in the shooting category and secured 62 ground balls to Brevard's 38. Piedmont won 26 of 33 faceoffs and scored four man-up goals.

Piedmont kicked off the contest with nine consecutive goals in the first quarter to take a 9-0 lead. Brevard scored a power-play goal as Howard hit the back of the net to kick off the second period, but the Lions answered with seven goals in-a-row to take a 16-1 lead into the locker rooms.

The Lions blanked Brevard in the third quarter, 6-0, before the Tornados found the back of the net three times in the fourth quarter with Wallace's two strikes and Francois' goal.

The defeat ends the 2022 season for the Tornados, who earned a pair of victories including winning the inaugural "Battle of the Blue Ridge" against Warren Wilson and a USA South win over Averett.
