Monarch Scoring Stretch Sinks Tornados, 14-5

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (1-8, 0-4 USA South) fell in conference action to Methodist University (6-6, 1-3 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Freshman midfielder Finnegan McCormack scored a career-high four goals to lead BC's offense, while also winning 10 faceoffs and securing a team-best nine ground balls. Andrew McDonald also got on the scoresheet with a goal, while Jacob Gravely caused four turnovers defensively.

Making just his second collegiate start, Jack Hicks (0-2) made 16 saves, bringing his season total to 34 through two contests.

Methodist's Cy Horner scored four times with two assists for a game-high six points, while Hunter Vaughan turned in a hat trick of three goals. Carter Favreau dished out a game-high three assists. Cameron Brink made nine saves to lead the Monarch defense.

Methodist was able to control a 59-28 shot advantage while grabbing 43 ground balls to BC's 41. Both sides were tied in faceoffs, 11 each, while the Monarchs forced Brevard into 36 turnovers and were successful in 21 of 25 clear attempts.

The visitors scored two goals in the first 10 minutes to take a 2-0 advantage in a low-scoring first quarter, but Brevard answered back as McCormack scored his first of four goals, as the contest moved to the second period 2-1 in favor of Methodist.

Both sides traded goals at the beginning of the second quarter before Methodist scored three-straight to take a 6-2 lead. McDonald scored to bring the Tornados within three, but Methodist found the back of the net with 32 seconds left to carry a 7-3 lead into the intermission.

Methodist carried its momentum into the third period, hitting six goals in-a-row to push its advantage to a 13-3 margin with just over eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. McCormack answered Methodist's run, scoring a pair of goals 11 seconds apart to bring Brevard within eight, 13-5. Methodist was able to seal the deal with a goal at the 3:11 mark to clinch the conference win 14-5.

Brevard returns to action next Saturday, April 9 to take on LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia at 2 p.m. BC's next home contest is on Saturday, April 16 vs. Averett University at 12 p.m.
