Hicks Saves 18 Shots in First Career Start, Tornados Fall 15-5

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Freshman goalkeeper Jack Hicks saved 18 total shots in his first career start, however the Brevard College men's lacrosse team (1-7, 0-3 USAS) fell 15-5 to Greensboro College (6-3, 3-0 USAS) on Tuesday evening in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Hicks, a first-year Tornado making his first collegiate start in his hometown of Greensboro, made 18 saves which is a single-game high for Brevard this season.

Andrew McDonald scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Tornado offense. Nate Ellen, Frankie Howard, and Trystan Wallace also scored goals in the contest, while Brice Peterson dished out an assist. Finnegan McCormack won 11 faceoffs for BC and grabbed a team-high nine ground balls.

The Pride were able to outshoot the Tornados 49-20 in the contest, while BC edged the hosts in ground balls, 34-32.

Greensboro scored the first two goals of the contest in the first seven minutes before McDonald got the Tornados on the board with less than a minute left in the first quarter, cutting the deficit to a 2-1 margin as the game went into the second quarter. The Pride were able to score four unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 6-1 lead before BC answered back at the 3:44 mark on Wallace's unassisted goal, as Greensboro held a 6-2 advantage at the halftime intermission.

The Pride took control of the contest in the third period with five unanswered goals, giving the hosts an 11-2 lead. Ellen, Howard, and McDonald all scored goals in the fourth quarter, but Greensboro held on for the 15-5 victory.

BC returns home on Saturday, April 2 to face Methodist University at Ives-Lemel Family Field  at 3 p.m.
