Tornados Dominate Owls, Win Inaugural Battle of the Blue Ridge

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (1-5) routed Warren Wilson College (0-8), 17-2, in the inaugural "Battle of the Blue Ridge rivalry matchup between the two programs on Thursday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field. 

With the victory, Brevard secured the Blue Ridge Trophy, which will be passed between the two teams each season.

BC's victory on Thursday clinched the first for Head Coach JD LeMay at the helm of Brevard men's lacrosse.

Andrew McDonald scored a career-high six goals and also dished out a career-best four assists for 10 points, which was just two shy of the program single-game record held by alumnus Jackson McKaig '19. Freshman Finnegan McCormack added two goals and a season-high four assists, while Trystan Wallace added three goals and an assist. 

Senior goalkeeper Devin McCarragher (1-5) made a pair of saves in 30 minutes of action to keep the Owl offense at bay. Freshman shot-stopper Jack Hicks made a career-high five saves while manning the goal in the second half for the Tornados. 

Brevard dominated the contest offensively, outshooting the Owls 65-18. BC's 65 shot attempts were the program's most in a single game in its history. The Tornados wrangled in 57 ground balls, which is the third-most in a single game all-time, while forcing 42 Warren Wilson turnovers in the matchup. BC went 18-for-23 on faceoff attempts and converted a man-up opportunity.

BC's McDonald and Frankie Howard scored consecutive goals within the first two minutes of play to give the Tornados the quick 2-0 lead. The Owls were able to answer back, cutting the deficit to a one-score contest with seven minutes left to play in the first quarter. Brevard answered back, as Brice Peterson got onto the scoresheet for the Nados, making it a 3-1 affair. Wallace put in a McDonald assist to give Brevard a 4-1 lead heading into the second period. 

The Tornados went on to dominate the second quarter, as McDonald scored four-consecutive goals to extend the BC lead to a commanding 8-1 margin. Nate Stone and McCormack each found the back of the net before the halftime intermission, as Brevard took a nine-goal lead into the locker rooms. 

Brevard continued their 13-goal run in the third period, as Ellen put back-to-back scores in followed by Howard's second goal and McDonald's sixth of the matchup. Warren Wilson was able to score in the final minute of the third quarter, as the Tornados led 15-2 with one more period left to go. 

Wallace and McCormack each found the back of the pylon in the final period, as the Tornados cruised to a trophy win over the Owls. 

Brevard jumps back into USA South play on Saturday when the Tornados tangle with William Peace University at Ives-Lemel Family Field on Saturday at 10 a.m.
