Tornados Open Conference Play in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (0-5, 0-1 USA South) opened USA South Conference play on Saturday in Montgomery, Alabama, falling to Huntingdon College (3-4, 1-0 USAS). The Tornados fell 18-7 in the conference-opening matchup.

Andrew McDonald scored three goals and added an assist for four points to lead the Brevard offense. Trystan Wallace added a goal and two assists, while Nate Ellen, Finnegan McCormack, and Will Scoggins also got on the scoresheet.

Huntingdon controlled the contest by outshooting Brevard, 58-27, and held a 32-26 edge in ground balls. BC was able to win 16 of 25 faceoffs and caused 13 Huntingdon turnovers.

Ellen opened the scoring for Brevard, as the Tornados took a 1-0 lead at the 5:37 mark in the first quarter. The Hawks scored consecutive goals before Brevard's Scoggins equalized the contest, 2-2, at the end of the first period.

The Hawks dominated the second quarter, scoring seven-consecutive goals to take a 9-2 lead into the intermission. Huntingdon scored the first two goals of the third quarter before Brevard's McDonald scored the first of his three goals. The sophomore from Vienna, Virginia scored two more goals in the period, but the Tornados trailed 13-6 heading into the fourth and final quarter.

Huntingdon closed the contest out on a 5-1 scoring run to clinch the 18-7 victory.

The Tornados are slated to face Warren Wilson College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
