Falcons Handle Tornados in Sunday Afternoon Matchup

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (0-4) fell in a non-conference contest to Concordia University of Wisconsin (2-2), 19-5, on Sunday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

The contest closed out a four-game homestand for the Tornados, as Brevard gets primed for USA South Conference action to ramp up next week.

Freshman attacker Frankie Howard scored the first two goals of his Tornado career to pace the Brevard attack against CUW. Finnegan McCormack, Brice Peterson, and Will Scoggins also got on the score sheet for BC, with Scoggins putting in the first score of his collegiate career. Andrew McDonald dished out a career-high three assists to help facilitate BC's offense, while McCormack grabbed eight ground balls and Evan Johnson caused four turnovers defensively for BC. Senior goalkeeper Devin McCarragher made 14 saves in front of goal for BC, and McCormack won eight faceoffs.

Concordia Wisconsin was led by Keijo Day, Max Esposito, and Hans Milchling, who all scored three goals each, and starting GK Adam Nichols stopped eight shots to stifle the Tornado offense.

The Falcons were able to outshoot Brevard 51-27, while holding a 46-41 edge on ground balls and converting 18-of-21 clear attempts.

The first half of action belonged to the Falcons, who scored eight unanswered goals and outshot the Tornados 25-12 en route to an 8-0 advantage at the intermission. CUW scored the first two goals in the third quarter before Scoggins found the back of the net on a McDonald pass, getting BC in the scoring column. Peterson's goal came with 56 seconds left in the third period, as CUW held a 15-2 lead heading into the last quarter of play.

The Tornados had their most productive period of the contest in the fourth quarter, scoring three times as McCormack got on the score sheet alongside Howard's first two career goals, but the effort proved too late as the Falcons wrapped up the 19-5 victory.

Brevard opens conference action up on the road on Saturday, March 19 in Montgomery, Alabama, facing Huntingdon College at 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT.
