Five Tornados Reach Double Figures in Tuesday Road Setback to Falcons

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Five players scored in double figures, but the Brevard College men's basketball team (6-13, 2-6 USA South) fell 87-78 to Pfeiffer University (7-9, 3-3 USAS) on Tuesday evening at Merner Gym in Misenheimer, North Carolina.

All five of BC's starters in the contest - Jadon Carnes, Quincy Carter, Carson Evans, Kavan Horton, and Garrett Sutherland - totaled double-digit scoring totals for the Tornados in the loss.

Horton, a sophomore guard from Asheville, North Carolina, totaled a career-best 19 points alongside six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Carnes added a career-high 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor.

Carter scored 13 points with five rebounds and three assists, while Sutherland added 12 points and a career-high nine rebounds. Evans rounded out the Tornado starters with 10 points and a pair of 3-pointers made.

Pfeiffer was led by five double-digit scorers of its own, as Daniel Fulp and Taylan Rowe each posted 16-point performances.

The two sides were nearly equal from the field and the Tornados hit one more 3-point bucket (9-8) than Pfeiffer did. The hosts managed to attempt 25 free throws and hit 17 of them, while BC only got nine attempts from the charity stripe. The Falcons turned 14 BC turnovers into 19 points, and Pfeiffer's bench outscored Brevard's 27-6.

Brevard held an early 7-2 lead before the Falcons gained the advantage with a 20-5 stretch to take a 22-12 lead at the 10:28 mark in the first half. The Falcons did not look back from there, extending their margin out to 17 points, 42-25, as intermission hit.

The Tornados were able to turn in a 53-point second half to keep the contest within single digits for a majority of the period, but Brevard never drew closer than eight points as the Falcons held off BC's comeback efforts for the USA South victory, 87-78.
