Tornados Open 2022 with DI Exhibition in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team opened the 2022-23 season up on Monday in exhibition action at NCAA DI USC Upstate inside the G.B. Hodge Center. The Spartans took a 90-42 victory over Brevard in Upstate's regular season opener. 

Junior guard LB Boyette led all Tornados with 16 points on 7-of-14 (50%) shooting from the field with one 3-point bucket. Senior guard Quincy Carter added five points, while Amaru Grosvenor and Kavan Horton also totaled five points in their respective collegiate debuts. Chancey Watson and Boyette led Brevard with four and three rebounds respectively. 

Upstate was paced by five double-figure scoring totals, with Justin Bailey, Seny N'Diaye, and Floyd Rideau Jr. each scoring 12 points apiece. Ahmir Langlis grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, while Bailey and Thomas Sheida dished three assists apiece. 

The Spartans utilized the offensive glass with 17 second-chance points, and Upstate outscored Brevard 48-26 in points off the bench. Upstate shot an efficient 54.4% from the field and went 9-for-17 beyond the 3-point line. 

Brevard's regular season opens up at home on Thursday as the Tornados host Bob Jones University at 7 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
