BC Drops Road Affair to Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (3-10, 1-2 USAS) dropped a road affair at USA South Conference rival Covenant (7-4, 2-0 USAS) 86-54 on Tuesday night at the Barnes PE Center in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.

Sophomore point guard Carson Evans led the Tornados with 13 points with three 3-pointers in a game-high 28 minutes.  Junior Chancey Watson came off the bench to score 11 points as BC's lone other player in double figures.
 
Freshman Garrett Sutherland also came off the bench to contribute nine points on an efficient 4-of-6 shooting.  Senior Alex Wesig scored seven points and led BC with four assists, while junior Quincy Carter led the Tornados on the glass with six rebounds.
 
Host Covenant had 11 different players in the scoring column with four Scots in double figures. Chris Barnette and Myles Jones led the home squad, each scoring 13 points.
 
Covenant never trailed in the contest, holding a slight advantage through the first ten minutes of the opening half. The Scots then stretched their lead to 28-20, before Evans cut the deficit to five points with a three-pointer off a Wesig assist with four minutes until intermission. 
 
The Scots however would fire off a 13-0 scoring run to end the half and take a 41-23 lead into the break.
 
Covenant extended its lead even further in the second half, outscoring BC 45-31 in the final stanza.
 
Covenant outshot Brevard 51% to 39% in the contest and went 12-of-26 from behind the arc. The two teams combined for just ten free throw attempts.  The Scots won the battle of the boards, out-rebounding the Tornados 45-28, including an 11-3 advantage on the offensive glass.
 
Brevard returns to action with another USA South Conference road game on Saturday at Berea College.  Tip off for the match up between the Tornados and Mountaineers is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Berea, Kentucky.
