Tornados Use Big First Half to Claim 75-61 Victory over Pride

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Brevard College men's basketball team (3-7) earned its third win in its last four outings, taking a 75-61 triumph over Greensboro College (6-7) on Friday evening in Greensboro, North Carolina.

LB Boyette poured in a team-high 15 points with seven rebounds, hitting five field goals and four free throws. David Sealy added 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field with a pair of 3-pointers and three made free throws. Carson Evans added 11 points off the bench with three field goals and a perfect 4-for-4 mark from the free-throw line while Alex Wesig added nine points. Quincy Carter and Charles Reed each added eight points and five boards to BC's winning effort.

Greyson Collins led the Pride with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and a 3-of-6 mark from long distance. Kevon Meertins added nine points and five rebounds.

Brevard's offense heavily outpaced the Pride, making 53% of its field goals while hitting at a 35% clip from long range and 73% from the charity stripe. BC dished out 14 assists and had 12 fastbreak points while holding a lead as big as 23 points at one point in the matchup.

Brevard started off the contest with the hot hand offensively, scoring 22 of the first 27 points through the first eight minutes of action. Greensboro was able to answer back with an 8-0 run of its own, cutting the lead to single digits, 22-13, with 9:09 left in the first stanza. Back-to-back Boyette field goals pushed BC's advantage back up to a 14-point margin, 28-14, at the under-eight media timeout, before taking a 13-point lead into the locker rooms, 37-24.

Sealy and Wesig each tallied eight points in the first half, with Sealy hitting a 3-for-3 mark from the field while going 2-of-2 from long distance. Chancey Watson grabbed four rebounds, while Boyette and Carson Evans each tallied six points.

Greensboro cut the Brevard lead to 10 points, 39-29, at the 17-minute mark in the second half, however, that was as close as the Pride were able to get, as Brevard pushed its lead to a game-high 23 points after a Watson jumper with 7:23 left to play in the contest. BC held off Greensboro to take a 14-point triumph, 75-61.

The Tornados are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, January 9 with a road contest against William Peace University, slated for 2 p.m. in Raleigh, North Carolina.
