BREVARD, N.C. – Freshman forward Garrett Sutherland has been selected as the USA South Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week following his performances in BC's two victories over Warren Wilson College and Berea College.
The selection marks Brevard men's basketball's first weekly award selection since joining the USA South.
Sutherland, a native of Atlanta, obtained the honor following a week in which he averaged 10 points per game while totaling 4.5 rebounds per game in Brevard's pair of victories.
In a 57-49 win over Warren Wilson, Sutherland scored 11 points with four rebounds, one assist, and one steal. In a 104-98, double-overtime, victory over Berea, Sutherland posted nine points, five rebounds, and one assist.
Sutherland has appeared in six contests so far this season while making three starts in Brevard's last three contests. The freshman is averaging seven points per game while shooting a 91% clip from the free-throw line while also grabbing 3.2 rebounds per game.

Brevard returns to play with an exhibition matchup on the road in Spartanburg, South Carolina at NCAA DI USC Upstate next Saturday, December 18 at 4 p.m. The Tornados return home on New Year's Eve to face Ferrum College on Friday, December 31 at 2 p.m.
