BC Earns First Win of 2021-22 on Road at Warren Wilson
SWANNANOA, N.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (1-6) earned its first win of the 2021-22 season with a 57-49 win at host Warren Wilson (0-7) on Tuesday night in Swannanoa, North Carolina.
 
Sophomore Carson Evans scored a season-high 13 points to lead the Tornados offensively. It marked the second time in his collegiate career that the Charlotte, North Carolina native has scored double figures having scored a career-high 14 points as a freshman last Spring vs. Huntingdon.
 
Freshman forward Garrett Sutherland registered 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting, marking his second double-digit scoring output in the past three games.  Sophomore guard Charles Reed led BC on the glass with six rebounds, the third time this year he has grabbed six or more boards. Sophomore LB Boyette supplied a team-high nine boards, while senior Alex Wesig added eight points.
 
The Tornados used a strong second half to their advantage to take the victory over the Owls.  BC outscored WWC 37-22 in the second to facilitate a 22-point swing after trailing 27-20 at halftime. The Tornados shot 15-of-34 from the field for a 44% shooting percentage in the second stanza.
 
Moreover, Brevard shut down Warren Wilson in the second half on the defensive end.  BC held the Owls to just 5-of-25 (20% FG%) shooting from the field and blanking the home team from beyond the arc as WWC went 0-for-7 in three-pointers in the period.
 
Brevard will return to action with its USA South Conference opener vs. Berea College on Saturday at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. on the BC campus.
